Great Hindu Heroes

The early part of the 19th century was a dark period for the Eelam Tamils. Under alien British rule, there was the danger of the Tamils losing their language, culture, their way of life and their religious beliefs.

During this crucial period, Arumuga Navalar, the champion of Saivaism(Hinduism) and the pioneer of Tamil prose appeared on the scene.

The Chritian missionaries were converting the Tamils to Chritianity by providing education, employment and concessions. There was a real danger of the preponderant majority of the

Tamils circumbing to these inducements and attractions, and eventually, losing their Tamil and Saiva identity. It was left to Arumuga Navalar to awaken the consciousness of the Tamils and to make them aware of this drift.

 

Swami Vivekananda

The Valiant monk who proclaimed in America the greatness of Hinduism and of Indian culture at a time when the west regarded India as a land of Barbarians. The beloved disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. He was the great thinker and mighty man of action.

 

Gandhiji Gandhiji's

life was dedicated to the ideals of Truth, Non- violence and Love. He was the architect of India's freedom and one of the greatest men of this century  Sardar Patel India's Man of Steel. He gave up his practise in order to fight for the freedom of the country. He was sent to prison. As the Deputy Prime Minister of free India, he became the architect of the integrity of India by mer- ging of hundreds of princely states with the Indian Union.

Bal Gangadhar

Tilak "Swaraj is our brithright" thundered Tilak, the Lion of India. He founded schools and published newspapers all for his motherland. He wore him- self out till his last breath, to awaken his countrymen.

Ramaprasad Bismil

A Brave revolutionary who up his life smilingly for the sake of the Motherland. He was hunted by the police and betrayed by fellow workers. He was the brave leader of Kakori Rail Dacoity Episode.

Bhagath Singh

He is the symbol of the heroism of the youth of India. A revolutionary. He threw a bomb when the Legislature was in session, to warn the British Government. He was put to death but lives in the hearts of his countrymen.

Khudiram Bose

It was this hero who threw the first bomb on the Bristish who were crushing India. The boy of sixteen defied the police. At the age of nineteen,he became a martyr, with the holy book the Bhagavadgita ( The Divine Song) in his hand and with the slogan  ' Vande Mataram' on his lips.
